North Korean

The North Koreans had triggered the start of this conflict by invading the south on 25th June 1950. The UN, led by the US, attempted to repel this invasion but the North Koreans made good gains and made their way across most of South Korea. However, a counter-offensive in September 1950 forced the North Koreans to retreat and this move back continued north right up to the border with China. In October 1950, Chinese forces entered the conflict to support the North Koreans and the war continued for a further two years of fighting, before an armistice was eventually signed on July 27th 1953.
