Personalities

A few handy personalities to keep your armies in order! These are the in regulation dress of their respective armys. Republican generals seemed to prefer the peaked gorra while Nationalists favoured the Isabelino cap. Teniente General Miaja was head of the Junta de Defensa de Madrid in 1936 credited with preventing the fall of the city to the Nationalist. He then commanded the Ejército del Centro and took part in the battles of Jarama, Guadalajara and Brunete. At the end of the war he went into exile in Mexico where he died in 1958. He wears the 1936 regulation uniform of the Popular Army with trousers and shoes. Tentiente Coronel Vladimir Copic was a Jugoslav Communist based in Moscow at the outbreak of the Civil War. He was originally Political Commisar of 15th Brigade but was promoted and given command at Jarama in February 1937. He commanded XV Brigade until April 1938 when he was recalled to Moscow, He was executed during the purges in 1939. Copic wears the 1936 regulation uniform with breeches and boots. His coat is a non-regulation black leather one. Franco wears the regulation uniform of the Spanish army, which the National army continued to use, with capote manta with fur collar. A contemporary of Franco, Coronel Juan Yague was a supporter of the Falange. At the outbreak of war he was serving in the Ejército de África, in command of the 2nd Bandera of the Spanish Legion. He commanded a column advancing on Madrid and was responsible for the execution at least 4000 Republican military and civilian prisoners at Badajoz than earned him the epithet of The Butcher of Badajoz. Promoted to Coronel he fought in the Siege of Madrid in 1937 and later at the battles of Teruel and The Ebro. He was promoted to General de Brigada in 1938 and took command of the Moroccan Army Corps with which he took Barcelona. He remained in the army until he died in 1952. He is wearing the regulation National Army uniform with a buff-coloured cold-weather coat called a Canadiense. The CTV is represented by Generale di Divisione Mario Roatta and Generale di Brigata Annibale Bergonzoli. Roatta was the first commander of the CTV, who led it at Guadalajara in March 1937. He was replaced in December 1938. Roatta is wearing the regulation grey-green uniform ordinaria of the CTV with black beret of the Camice Nere as he would have appeared at Guadalajara. Bergonzoli is similarly dressed in a Bustina forage cap and overcoat of the same grey-green cloth. He commanded Division Littorio at Guadalajara and was the only Italian general not to be recalled by Mussolini.
