South Korean

The North Koreans had initially invaded the south on 25th June 1950, pushing back firstly the South Koreans and then subsequently the US forces sent to support them. However, a counter-offensive in September 1950 turned the tide and forced the North Koreans to retreat north right up to the border with China. This triggered a Chinese response, bringing this powerful nation into the conflict and gave the North the momentum once more. Fighting continued for another two years, until an armistice was eventually signed on July 27th 1953.
